About
Jeffcott Chambers takes it name from Sir John Jeffcott, the first judge to be appointed to the Supreme Court of South Australia.
The Chambers opened in March 1982, and is located alongside the Supreme Court, in the building that housed the Supreme Court Hotel from 1875 until it closed its doors in 1970. The building lay derelict from 1970 until it was restored in anticipation of Jeffcott Chambers opening.
The Chambers has a proud history, with its former members listed below.
Twelve barristers currently practise out of Jeffcott Chambers, accepting briefs in various areas of practice. Details of current members of Chambers, and their areas of practice, may be accessed from the Members page.
Under the Barristers' Rules, members of Jeffcott Chambers may only give advice to a particular person on a specific matter or case if instructed to do so by a solicitor.
